Mount IDA

The village called Yeşilyurt (Büyük Çetmi), where Manici Kasrı lived, is located on the shoulder of Ida Dağı (Ida Mountain). Ida Dağı, where beauty contests among whose participants were Hera, Afrodit and Athena were held according to Grek myths is known as Kaz Dağı today. According to these myths, Zeus was born here, gods watched the Troia War here, Love and the Afrodit (the goddess of beauty) first fell in love here. Many antique Works have survived on the shoulder of the mountain on the North of Edremit Bay. The name 'Ida Dağı' is repeated many times in the Works "Halikarnas Balıkçısı" and the Ilyada Epic of Homeros.
"Halikarnas Balıkçısı" and the Ilyada Epic of Homeros. You can listen to the miracles regarding the name changing of the mountain from Ida to Kaz. According to a story; a very good-hearted, symphathetic, benevolent girl lived in a village in Edremit called Güre. Due to the slanders of those that could not put up with her, she was left to Kaz Dağı with 5-10 geese.after a long period of time, her father came to see his daughter and wanted water from her in order to perform an ablution. Upon seeing Sarıkız's fulling her bowl with water from the summit of the mountain into the gulf, he got to know that his daughter had become a Saint. As soon as her secret got out, Sarıkız died right there. Her father, so much upset by this died on another hill of the mountain. According to this myth, Ida Dağı began to be called Kaz Dağı; the summit of the mountain "Sarıkız Tepesi" (Sarıkız Hill); the place where the father died "Baba Dağı" (Father Mountain). Stil, in every August, conventional beauty contests are held on the mountain. Watching these festivals, you may be a witness to that the conventions of Turcomen stil remain the same despite all the passing centuries and that the folk celebrate the festivals with candles and songs. Kaz Dağı was declared a national park in 1993 and its nature has been taken under protection since then. Deep canyons and tens of water falls make here a unique natural wonder. The name 'Ida' that is mentioned as very important by myths was given to the only asteroit whose photograph was captured by the spaceship called Galileo and which is known to have a satellite.
