     Bozcaada, the only district of Turkey including no village, is a nice place of 42km2, 15 miles southern to the Dardanelles, and surrounded by the blue of the Aegean Sea. Bozcaada, located to the opposite of Troia (an antique city) is said to be the hidden harbour in which the armada of Akhali was hidden in the time of the legendary Troia War in the epic 'Ilyada' of Homeros. Transportation to Bozcaada is easy with ferryboats. The landing place is 40kms away from Bozcaada. Upon an enjoyable ferryboat journey, Bozcaada welcomes you with all its beauty. All the ferryboats carry vehicles.
     Bozcaada, like the centre of Çanakkale, is hot and dry in summer; lukewarm and rainy in winter. Located near the outlets of the Dardanelles, Bozcaada is open to excessive north breeze. This situation creates the opportunity for windsurfing in some parts of the island. Besides, in the remote part of the island where the soil is infertile, the wind power station constructed in June 2000 supplies the electricity for about 30.000 people. This figure, about 30 times as much as Bozcaada's need, is transferred to Çanakkale. The aestheticly built wind power station containing 17 gaint conical cylinders is worth seeing.
     With its most beautiful beaches, its sea as clean as crystal and its serenity supplying peace of mind, Bozcaada fascinates those looking for sea, sand and sun. Due to Bozcaada's being an island, whatever the direction of the wind is, it is always possible to find a calm bay. The chief bays in Bozcaada can be counted as Ayazma Bay, Sulubahçe Bay, Habbeli Bay, İman Bay, Değirmenler Bay, Poyraz Harbour, Çanak Harbour, Çapraz Harbour, Kocatarla Harbour, Lagor Harbour and Ayana Harbour. Cleanest waters of Bozcaada promises a wide visibility distance and thus is appropriate for diving. Some diving schools in big cities give their diving education in Bozcaada.
     The delightful wines made of the local grapes of Bozcaada have an unforgettable taste. Besides, in Bozcaada, which is on the migration direction of the fish, the seafoods' taste is so different. Bozcaada is, at the same time rich for the bottom fish such as bream, prouper, coral and bass.
     Tenedos, the ancient name for Bozcaada appeared as a consequence of the coming of Tanes, the son of King Kyknos, one of the Poseidon's children into the island known as Leukophrys as a result of her mother's slander. Tanes who was left to die in a box into the waters of the Aegean Sea chancefully reached onto the Leukophrys Island . afterwards, this island was called Tenedos; meaning the island belonging to Tenes. Due to its strategic location in front of the Dardanelles, Bozcaada has belonged to many nations and it has been exposed to numerous attacks . the first known owners of the island was the Pelagians(Pelazzis). Bozcaada (Tenedos) was ruined by Persians in the 1500s BC. In the framework of the dominance struggle in in Eagean and Mediterranian, Bozcaada changed hands among Genoa, Venice and Byzantine. In the time of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Bozcaada passed to the Otoman Empire. Bozcaada, having changed hands between the Otoman Empire and Venice, got under the dominance of Russia for a short period of time; then during the magnificience of Mahmut II, it passed to the Otoman Empire. Bozcaada and Gökçeada, having been invaded by the Grek in the course of the Balkan War towards the end of 1912, passed to the Republic of Turkey thanks to the Lozan Pact signed on 20 September 1923. during the period when Bozcaada was under Grek invasion,it was utilized as exponent by the French and English in the wars on the Dardanelles. As the ferryboat approaches Bozcaada, the ancient Bozcaada()Tenedos) Castle on the east side of the island will welcome you. Bozcaada Castle supposed to have been constructed by the phoenicians got restored and extended by the Geoneses and Venetians. The real aim of the Geoneses and Venetians was to protect their own ships coming for the sake of trade from the ships belonging to pirates. Losing their power in Bozcaada, the Venetians left there after badly impairing the island. The Bozcaada Castle, having its present decoration in the time of Fatih Sultan Mehmet was restored a few times in the period of the Otoman Empire. The most extensive of these restorations was in 1815 in the perion of Mahmut II, which is also mentioned on the inscription now hung on the entrance of the castle. In the castle takes place an ethnography exhibition and an open air museum.
